Windows NT 4.0 PPP Setup
This is a setup and general help guide for connecting to
aserty
using Windows NT 4.0 and PPP. To follow these setup instructions, you must have an existing account and client ID with
aserty.
If you do not have an account, go to our Registration Center.
Windows NT is an operating system specifically designed for non-dial connections. LAN and dial connections will conflict, so contact your LAN Administrator for help with a system on a Network and Dial connection.

Configure the Software
- Double-click My Computer, then Control Panel, and then Network.
- Select the Identification tab. Verify that the Computer Name and Workgroup fields have been filled in (these are preferences and you can use any thing you like: your company name and department, for example).
- Select the Protocols tab. If TCP/IP is not installed, click Add, select the TCP/IP protocol, and then click OK.
- Highlight TCP/IP and click Properties.
- Select the DNS tab. Fill in Hostname and Domain as you please and then verify that you do not have any DNS servers listed here. The DNS servers are added in the Dial-up Networking section.
- Select the Services tab. If you do not have Remote Access Service, click Add, and then Remote Access Service.
- Highlight Remote Access Service, and then select the Properties tab. Your modem should be highlighted in the box. If your modem is not highlighted, make sure it is installed properly.
- Click Network and verify that TCP/IP is checked. Click OK, and then Continue.
- Double-click My Computer, then Dial-Up Networking, and then New.
- Select the Basic tab. For Entry name, enter aserty. For Phone number, enter the
aserty
access number

- Your modem brand should be in the Dial using field. Click Configure and set the initial speed. For maximum speed, enter 38400 for 14.4 modems, and 57600 for 28.8 or greater. However, you can experiment with these speeds.
- Make sure that all three Hardware features are checked.
- Select the Server tab. Verify that PPP: Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet is selected in the Type Of Dial-Up Server drop-down list.
- Verify that Enable Software Compression and Enable PPP LCP extensions are not checked. Under Network protocols, verify that only TCP/IP is checked.
- Click TCP/IP settings and verify that Server Assigned IP address and Server assigned name server addresses are both checked.
- Verify that Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network are checked, and then click OK.
- Select the Script tab. Verify that None is checked.
- Select the Security tab. Verify that Accept any authentication including clear text is checked, and then click OK.
- You can click Unsave Password here anytime you need to change your logon information stored in the Connect to Internet box.
- Click Dial.
For User Name, enter your
aserty client ID.
For Password, enter your client ID password. Leave the Domain field blank and click OK.
Troubleshoot Your Connection
The Windows NT Error 629 simply means that you have been disconnected. This error sometimes relates to a password problem, but many times points to a configuration problem or software conflict. Review the above instructions to ensure that you have followed all the steps correctly.
If you are on any type of direct network connection, contact your LAN Administrator to help resolve any possible conflicts.
